- Merriam Mountains, a proposed new residential community in north San Diego County, was designed to help meet San Diego’s critical housing needs, protect the environment, and sustain a high quality of life for current as well as new residents. Complementing the area's history and character, the carefully planned community will incorporate proven planning principles to create a well-balanced living environment. Located on 2,327 acres west of I-15 and north of Deer Springs Road, the new community is projected to include a wide variety of homes, 37 parks (16 public), 18.3 miles of trails, a neighborhood shopping center, and over 1,729 acres of permanent open space. Ideally situated near North County employment centers in San Marcos and Escondido, Merriam Mountains is only about five miles from The San Marcos Town Center, Cal State University San Marcos, Palomar College and the Sprinter Station.
